If you’re looking for an easy short walk with plenty of scenery in the Gippsland area, I would highly recommend hiking the Mushroom Rocks Trail.
Located about half an hour north of Moe in the Baw Baw National Park, the trail itself is approximately 1.5-2kms one way and begins from the Mt Erica car park.
Hikers will immediately find themselves amongst ferns and randomly placed boulders as the trail gently climbs up to the location of the Mushroom Rocks.
A little similar to the path laid out in the Werribee Gorge Circuit, the Mushroom Rocks trail is rocky in parts but is hardly difficult to navigate.
With this in mind, I believe it’s a trail suitable for children as well.
At a reasonable pace, you should be able to reach the rocks in about 30 minutes to an hour. It can take a little longer, particularly if you stop to take a million pictures as I did.
The rocks themselves are something else altogether. Similar to the path, they are scattered everywhere and there are some cool little corridors you can walk through to get to the back of them.
Given it’s a relatively small area with a few spots to camp, there are plenty of opportunities to explore.
Furthermore, if you are feeling a little more adventurous, you can climb some of the rocks and get some great views of the surrounding area.

I would rate this trail as a genuine Grade 3 where those with a base level of fitness would be able to complete it.
Can you camp along the trail?
There are a couple of spots where you can camp but if you are feeling a little more adventurous, I’d recommend walking further up to Talbot Peak and camp there.
