Located in the Mount Buffalo National Park, the Rollasons Falls Track is a short 3km return track consisting of upper and lower viewing points of the falls.
Starting at the Rollasons Falls Picnic Area, the well-formed track winds its way down to a t-intersection; heading left to the upper falls and right to the lower falls.
The upper falls section has two viewing points – looking over the falls into the rock pool and at the base of the rock pool itself.
After heading into a gradual descent, the track drops sharply to the lower section of the upper falls.
The track to get to the upper section here isn’t too far away and provides a great viewpoint of the rock pool below.
There are plenty of rocks etc. to sit around on at the base, but the main attraction of the Rollasons Falls Track is the pool itself where you are able to swim.
The water was bloody freezing and not nearly as accommodating as the water at the Mount Beauty Gorge Walk.
In saying that, Rollasons Falls is one of those places you could spend hours at either taking a million photos or going for a swim to cool off.
From here, you can wander down the stream a little to look over the lower falls section.
Once you’ve spent enough time at the upper section, be sure to head back up to the t-intersection and head down to the lower falls section.
There’s a significantly smaller waterfall here and a smaller rock pool, but it’s still very pretty to look at. In fact, I found there was significantly more room to sit around in the lower falls than in the upper falls.
To get back to the Rollason’s Falls Track car park, return on the same path that you came in on.
It is a sharp ascent back to the car park and probably more so seeing as you’ll be well and truly relaxed after spending a few hours swimming in the rock pools below.
Overall, the Rollasons Falls Track, similar to the Mount Beauty Gorge Walk, is an easy hike to navigate through. And much like the gorge walk, its main attraction is the waterfall and the water you’ll have the opportunity to swim in.
If you’re okay with hiking up steep hills, then I would recommend this hike to anyone with a reasonable level of fitness.
Be sure to take your time getting down to the lower section of the upper falls, as the track to the base is incredibly steep and slippery underfoot in places.
The car park of the picnic area can be accessed from Mount Buffalo Road which begins at the main roundabout in Porepunkah.
